Semaglutide is a modified molecule our bodies make, called a GLP-1 analog. It works by increasing insulin production and lowering glucagon secretion, as well as targeting areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. A small change in the molecule allows the drug to last weeks in our bodies rather than the natural version our bodies make; which lasts minutes. Originally, this was used for diabetes and sold under the name Ozempic. In June 2021, Wegovy, brand name Semaglutide, was FDA approved for weight loss. We are NOT prescribing the Brand name Semaglutide. We are prescribing the generic compounded Semaglutide with Cyanocobalamin (B12) injection. B12 can help with certain side effects this medication may cause, as well as increasing energy and mood.

• Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food. This leads to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meal sizes.
• Slows intestinal motility, so you will feel full longer.
• Lowers blood sugar sugar, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
• Stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas.

• These can vary but may include: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia, dizziness, tachycardia, hypoglycemia, gastroenteritis, changes in mood, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
• Symptoms of nausea and constipation usually last 1/2-2 days after injection. If nausea is severe, let your nurse practitioner know and we can prescribe zofran (anti-nausea medication). To avoid constipation, take 500-1000mg of magnesium daily, or come in for an IV hydration treatment to receive extra nutrients to help control side effects.

• You have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (Thyroid Cancer)
• Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2
• You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking this medicine
• You are diabetic and/or taking any medications related to lowering your blood sugar levels without speaking with your endocrinologist.
• This medication is NOT insulin, and should not be used if you have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Thoughts of suicidal ideation within the last 12 months.
• History of pancreatitis.
• History of kidney problems
• History of lymphatic cancer
